Bodofa Upendranath Brahma
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Bodofa Upendranath Brahma on his birth anniversary on March 31.
  • The Prime minsiter said that the life of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma was devoted to the welfare of people.
  • The Government of India and Assam Government are making numerous efforts to realise his dreams and work for the empowerment of the wonderful Bodo people, the Prime Minister further added.
  • The title of Bodofa (Guardian of Bodos) was posthumously conferred upon Brahma on 8 May 1990 in recognition of his vision and leadership.
  • His life is celebrated each year on the anniversary of his death, which is now called Bodofa Day.
  • He was vice-president of the All Bodo Students Union between 1981–1983 and president from 1986.

Promotion of Traditional Medicine

  • The B2B Conference & Expo along with National Arogya Summit, held in Guwahati recently under the aegis of Ministry of Ayush under India’s presidency of SCO.
  • India attained the SCO full member status in 2017.
  • The B2B conference was organized in line with the theme “SECURE” SCO, where ‘S’ stands for Security for Citizens, ‘E’ for Economic Development, ‘C’ for Connectivity, ‘U’ for Unity, ‘R’ for Respect for Sovereignty and Territorial Unity and ‘E’ for Environment Protection.

Conservation Plan for Great Indian Bustards

  • The Union Ministry of Environment takes various measures for conservation and protection of Great Indian Bustard in the country.
  • The Great Indian Bustard is listed in Schedule-I of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, thereby according it the highest degree of legal protection from hunting.
  • Important habitats of Great Indian Bustards are designated as National Parks/ sanctuaries for their better protection.
  • The species has been identified for conservation efforts under the component ‘Species Recovery Programme’ of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme- Development of Wildlife Habitats.
  • Conservation breeding of the Great Indian Bustard has been undertaken in collaboration with Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra Forest Departments and technical support of Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun with the aim of building a captive population of the species for release in the wild and promoting in-situ conservation of the species.
  • A satellite conservation breeding facility has been established at Sam, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
